Wilderness, expedition, mountain and ocean emergency medicine training

The Wilderness Emergency Medicine training program partners with other leaders in the field such as the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal's Department of Emergency Medicine, Lifesaving South Africa, Peak High Mountaineering and dive instructors recognized by PADI SA to offer both free and cost-efficient activities as per our calendar.

Trail hikes are over a few hours held at one of our preferred nature reserves. Each hike includes scenarios around specific themes for the day. Teaching and learning is practical scenario-based activities. They are either free or at minimal cost and are accredited for Continuing Medical Education. Check out our calendar to learn more.
The Wilderness First Aid Provider course is designed as an introduction to Wilderness Emergency Medicine, and teaches everything from the approach to wilderness emergencies to basic primary health care in the field. Contact us for more information.


The Wilderness Emergency Medicine Workshop is a classroom-based learning activity that goes through didactic and practical components of wilderness medicine, directed at emergency medicine doctors and advanced life support paramedics. It is accredited for Continuing Medical Education.
The Wilderness Emergency Medicine course is an intense 3 day course covering all aspects of wilderness emergency medicine directed at emergency medicine doctors and advanced life support paramedics. The Wilderness First Aid Provider course is suggested as a pre-requisite but this is not a formal requirement for this course. It is accredited for Continuing Medical Education.


  • We also offer specialized courses such as Dive Medicine and Large Animal Safari.
  •  The Wilderness Emergency Medicine Advanced course with climbing, survival, swift water rescue and tropical medicine / primary health care components and is offered to candidates already in possession of the Wilderness Emergency Medicine course. 
  • Non-medical climbing courses and outdoor related courses are offered by our partner organisation Peak High Mountaineering.
  • Unique medical survival courses are offered on demand and include training in using various aspects of your medical kit for survival.
  • We also offer a tailored WEM Disaster Medicine course.
  • We can also tailor-make a package of expedition medicine and primary health care courses for pre-hospital providers working in remote and austere settings.
